New baby joins Gibson family

Kerrie Gibson, Moreau science teacher and athletic trainer, became a mom on January 12 when she and her husband Jim adopted their new baby boy, Benjamin Daniel.
After thinking about adoption for five years on Gibson received a call on January 12 from her adoption counselor letting her know that a perspective birth mother at a Santa Clara Hospital was interested in meeting her and her husband as potential parents. Gibson got the phone call while she was with athletes in the training room. There were two soccer games going on and Athletic Director Christine Krisman was not at school so she had no one to tell that she had to leave.
“I took a deep breath, took care of the athletes, closed the training room, and I was on my way to Santa Clara. Oh and sometime during all of that I called my husband,” Gibson said.
After the birth of her son, life has become “all about Benjamin.” She no longer worries about the little things, and her priorities have become her child.
Even for friends, family, and students the new baby has become an object of excitement. Friends and family who have older children look at Benjamin, and reminisce about when their children where younger. For others, he has inspired thoughts about starting families and becoming parents.
“The love that surrounds a baby is an amazing thing,” Gibson said.
But having a new member of the family does not mean that she is giving up teaching at Moreau. Gibson plans on taking things day by day, while keeping her school schedule the same. Because her husband has a flexible work schedule, he will be able to take care of Benjamin during the day with the help of her parents and a nanny.
“Being a working mom will have it challenges, but with a little planning, prioritizing, and lots of prayer it will all work out.”
